2006 Mazda 3 shut off while accelerating?

I was in traffic one day and as I eased my foot off the break to push on the gas it just kind of stopped, and I couldn't accelerate. The battery light and oil light came on. I turned the car off and turned it back on and it worked fine. I checked the oil and that was fine.. maybe it has something to do with the breaks? help :/
